What the dates mean
The official booking page opens reservations at 09:00 JST, 14 days before the boating date, and closes them at 09:00 JST, two days before. Its cancellation instructions list 08:59 that same morning; after the deadline, voluntary cancellation costs 100%.
To change the date or time, the official FAQ says to cancel and book again. Another slot may not be available, and cancellation fees still depend on when you cancel. A card notification alone is not your confirmation: keep the reservation number and confirmation email.
Boat or gorge walk?
| Your situation | A workable choice |
|---|---|
| A boat is the main reason for your visit | Check the official calendar within the booking window. Protect arrival time, parking and the onward journey before committing to a slot. |
| Your travel date or arrival time may change | A walk avoids a boat reservation commitment. The association describes gorge paths and a waterfall viewing platform; check current access notices and signs before walking. |
| Advance boats are sold out | Check whether same-day sales apply to your date. Some dates are fully reservation-only; do not plan around an assumed walk-up boat. Consider the walk if access is open. |
| It is raining, but boats are operating | Rain alone does not mean an operator cancellation. If you decide not to go after the cancellation deadline, the voluntary cancellation charge applies. |
| The operator suspends boating | The official booking page says it emails affected customers and processes a refund. Follow that notice; refund posting time depends on the card issuer. Check walking access separately. |
The tourism association's boat guide describes a 30-minute rental, possible suspension for river conditions or safety checks, and no time change or refund if you miss boarding after check-in. A reservation does not guarantee operation or an onward connection.
