Tokyo Airport Luggage: Send, Store or Carry
Choose Tokyo airport luggage delivery only when the bag can reach a usable receiving location before you need it. Store it if you will return to the same place in time. Carry it if delivery or collection would leave you without something you need. A cheap quote is useful only after those three checks.
This guide covers arrivals at Haneda Airport and Narita International Airport. It focuses on the first day’s decisions, rather than ranking every luggage company. Provider conditions were checked on October 5, 2026; acceptance and the final schedule still need confirmation at the counter.
Start With Your Next Use of the Bag
Write down the first time you need the suitcase again, and the place you need it. “At my hotel tonight” and “before a train this afternoon” are different problems. If your plans change, run the check again before handing it over.
| Your situation | Option to check first | What must work |
|---|---|---|
| You want to explore before checking into a staffed hotel | Airport-to-hotel delivery | The actual handover deadline, receiving arrangements and arrival estimate |
| You need the suitcase’s contents this afternoon | Carrying, or storage near your afternoon plans | You can retrieve it before the next activity |
| You have a short outing and will return to the same airport | Airport storage | The return terminal, retrieval hours and time left before your flight |
| Your accommodation has no reception | Carrying, or an agreed staffed pickup location | Someone can accept the shipment and you can collect it during opening hours |
| You leave Tokyo immediately | Carrying, or a separately confirmed delivery to a later stop | You can manage without the suitcase until that later stop |
Treat storage as a round trip: drop-off → your outing → collection → your next destination. Sending is a one-way separation from the bag. That distinction often matters more than the headline price.
Same-day Delivery: Check Handover Time, Then Destination
A flight’s scheduled landing time is not your counter arrival time. Immigration, collecting checked luggage and finding the correct desk all come first. A plan that only works if everything runs perfectly needs a fallback.
These are specific published services, not a claim that every desk at the airport follows the same rules. Times below are local Japan time.
| Service and departure point | Published drop-off deadline | Published receiving time or condition |
|---|---|---|
| Yamato Transport from Haneda | 11:00 a.m. | After 6:00 p.m.; destination must be in the listed service area |
| Yamato from Narita, Terminals 1 and 2 | 10:30 a.m. | Eligible destinations; no choice of a specific delivery time slot |
| Yamato from Narita, Terminal 3 | 9:50 a.m. | Same conditions as the Narita row above |
| Sagawa’s Haneda Terminal 1 counter | 1:00 p.m. | From 4:00 p.m.; hotels in the 10 specified Tokyo wards or Urayasu |
Yamato’s general same-day guide says no reservation is required and warns that weather, traffic and parcel volumes can delay delivery. Its airport page lists Haneda same-day areas including central Tokyo and selected nearby areas; verify your exact address rather than assuming every Tokyo-area stay qualifies. The Narita FAQ also warns that disruption can cause refusal for a one-night hotel stay.
For the Sagawa Terminal 1 service, the listed wards are Shinagawa, Shinjuku, Ota, Shibuya, Chuo, Bunkyo, Chiyoda, Taito, Minato and Koto, plus Urayasu City. Another counter may have a different service area or deadline. Check the service-center directory before making a terminal transfer just to try a later cutoff.
Decision example: suppose you reach a delivery desk at noon and need your bag at 3:00 p.m. An option arriving from 4:00 p.m. does not solve that problem, even if the desk is still accepting bags. Either keep the needed items with you and accept the later delivery, or choose carrying/storage. This is a planning example, not a prediction of your flight or a guaranteed delivery.
Confirm Who Receives the Suitcase
Before paying, have your accommodation’s address, contact details, reservation name and check-in date ready. Ask whether it can receive the bag under your reservation and hold it until you collect it.
Yamato’s airport instructions exclude locations without staff to receive luggage. They offer a Yamato sales office as an alternative pickup destination, during that office’s business hours, and say convenience stores cannot be used as pickup locations for this service. Sagawa’s FAQ also excludes unmanned accommodation from same-day hotel delivery.
A working street address alone does not settle the decision. For a self-check-in apartment, first establish an acceptable receiver or pickup location with the carrier. If that cannot be arranged, carrying the suitcase avoids building the day’s itinerary around an unconfirmed handover.
Keep your passport, payment cards, phone and whatever you need before collection with you. For the rest of your packing, ask: “If this bag comes later than expected, can I still complete today’s plan?” Pack the separate day bag to match your answer.
Storage Works When Collection Fits Your Route
Haneda’s baggage-storage directory lists 24-hour temporary storage at Terminal 3. The temporary-storage desks in Terminals 1 and 2 are listed as 8:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m. These are storage-desk hours, not delivery acceptance deadlines; the two should not be used interchangeably.
At Narita, use the official storage directory to check your terminal and operator. The airport says charges vary by company. Its locker page also distinguishes daily and hourly lockers: daily-rate lockers incur another daily charge after midnight, rather than giving every user a full 24 hours.
Storage is useful when the pickup is naturally on your route. It becomes less attractive if you must make a separate trip back to the airport before checking into a city hotel. Compare the whole route and total cost, including that return journey, before choosing it.
If you want city storage instead, verify a particular location’s bag dimensions, available space, collection hours and booking conditions. “There are lockers in Tokyo” is not a confirmed place for your suitcase. Have another option if your intended locker or desk cannot accept it.
Missed the Deadline? Keep the Choice Small
If same-day delivery cannot be confirmed, there are three practical questions:
- Can you manage without the suitcase until a later confirmed delivery? Ask the carrier about the actual destination and date. Avoid treating a general next-day claim as a promise for your route.
- Will you return to a suitable storage location? Add the collection detour to your plan before leaving the bag.
- Would taking it to your accommodation be simpler? Ask the accommodation about pre-check-in storage if that is your plan; do not assume it is available.
Once the luggage plan is settled, build a realistic first day. Our Asakusa guide and Akihabara guide can help you choose an outing. Fit it around the confirmed handover or collection, and leave optional stops optional. For a later Kamakura and Enoshima day trip, arrange luggage collection separately from that excursion.
Before You Hand Over the Bag
Confirm the receiving location, expected date/time, final price, bag-size acceptance and what to do if the schedule changes. Keep the receipt and tracking details separate from the suitcase. If any essential part remains uncertain, keep the bag until you have a workable alternative.
Next step: open the relevant official service link above with your terminal, accommodation address and required receiving time in hand. Choose the option that satisfies those conditions. This guide does not process delivery bookings or guarantee availability.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Should I send, store or carry my suitcase after arriving in Tokyo?
- Send it when the receiving location and delivery schedule fit your plans. Store it when you can return to the same location before closing. Carry it when you need its contents before a feasible delivery or pickup time.
- Does my flight arrival time decide whether same-day delivery is possible?
- Use the time you can actually hand over your bag after immigration and baggage collection. Leave room for queues and delays, and confirm the service's deadline at your arrival terminal.
- Is same-day luggage delivery available from Narita?
- Yamato's Narita FAQ lists drop-off by 10:30 a.m. at Terminals 1 and 2, or 9:50 a.m. at Terminal 3, for eligible destinations. A specific delivery time slot cannot be chosen; the counter must confirm acceptance.
- Do I need to reserve Yamato same-day luggage delivery?
- Yamato's same-day service does not require a reservation. Check that your destination and actual handover time qualify before separating yourself from the bag.
- Can I store luggage at Haneda overnight?
- Haneda lists 24-hour temporary baggage storage at Terminal 3. Terminal 1 and 2 temporary-storage desks have different hours. Use the airport's current directory to check the desk you intend to use.
